Lt Governor Anil Baijal today directed the Delhi Police to expedite investigation in cases of crimes against children, besides appointing pools of specialists for investigating crimes in the national capital.

Baijal chaired a meeting which was attended by Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash, Principal Secretary (Home) Manoj Parida, Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik and other senior officials.

Sensitive handling can help the victims deal with the trauma and assist the investigation so that it reaches its logical conclusion swiftly, the LG office quoted Baijal as saying in the meeting.

In the meeting, the L-G stressed upon the need to sensitise investigating officers especially while dealing with the cases related to crime against women and offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act).

Baijal also directed police officials to take steps to address the urgent need for augmenting facilities at forensic labs and the prosecution branch, in commensurate with their workload.
