Police has not ruled out foul play yet as the deceased identified as Kamleshwar Kumar, a resident of Kalyanpuri in east Delhi, was reported missing since October 10.
Kumar's wife and family members, on October 10, had filed a missing complaint at Kalyanpuri Police Station.
Kumar was running a small garments shop in Mayur Vihar area and was married for last five years. He was living here with his wife and other family members.
The incident was brought to the police's notice at around 12.15 pm today by a gardener who was passing through the area and spotted the man hanging to a tree.
Police was informed and a team immediately rushed to the spot and brought down the body that was found hanging by a nylon rope.
Kumar was taken to a nearby government hospital where he was declared brought dead by doctors and a post-mortem was conducted subsequently, police said.
"A search of areas near the tree resulted in the recovery of a bag. It was found to be containing some documents, a tiffin box and a water bottle. A driving licence found inside revealed his identity," a police officer said.
Though no suicide note was recovered, police said prima facie it appeared to be a suicide case. There were no other injury marks on the body apart from those on the neck.
Police said Kumar was said to have last called his younger brother over phone on October 10 and all had appeared to be fine till then.
It is questioning Kumar's family members in a bid to ascertain what could have forced him to take the extreme step. He was childless and police are investigating if a possible depression over that issue could have led to his suicide.
