A man was arrested for allegedly making an attempt to rape a woman at gun point in Kandhamal district, police said today.
The incident occurred on July 24 at Kumbharapada and the accused Jagdish Mahananda (52) was arrested yesterday after the woman lodged a complaint on July 25.
The accused, stated to be in a drunken state, entered the house of the woman when she was alone. He tried to rape brandishing a gun at her, they said.
The woman raised an alarm and the villagers rushed to the spot and rescued her, while the accused fled.
Acting up on the FIR lodged by the woman, the accused was arrested.
