A man impersonating as a Traveling Ticket Examiner (TTE) was arrested when he was allegedly "collecting fines" from ticket-less passengers at the Kanpur Central Railway Station, GRP said today.

Monu, a resident of Jaunpur district was arrested by a Government Railway Police (GRP) team after it spotted an unknown person in a TTE's uniform collecting fines from passengers who had alighted from a train yesterday, they said.

The accused started running when he spotted the team approaching him. He was later caught and produced before railway officials for verification, they said.

Initially, he refused to accept his crime but after being grilled he revealed that he also collected fines against fake receipts from passengers on running trains, officials said.

A fake receipt-booklet was seized from him, they said.

The matter is being probed to know whether he was part of a nexus, they added.
