Modern, contemporary, traditional art; furniture up for sale

A five strand natural pearl necklace, a campaign picnic table and chair set besides artworks by master painters such as M F Husain are set to go under the hammer at Saffronart's online auction of Art Jewellery and Furniture on July 27.

80 lots with a pre-sale estimate of Rs 5.26 crores to 7.23 crores (USD 773,935 - 1,063,460) are on offer in the auction that has been billed as an entry point for collectors looking to acquire quality pieces in each category.

A five-strand natural pearl necklace, estimated at Rs 7 lakhs to Rs 10 lakhs (USD 10,295 - 14,710), is among the jewellery highlights.
 

Also included are watches from highly sought-after brands including Rolex, Patek Philippe, Piaget, Audemars Piguet; and jewellery featuring emeralds, tanzanite, rubies, coloured diamonds and sapphires.

Campaign furniture, which was first designed in the 18th and 19th centuries from a need to create light and portable furniture for officers and civilians travelling to Africa and India, forms a significant part of the sale.

Unique pieces which are foldable and easy to transport feature in this sale.

Traditional art on auction includes works by Warli and Gond artists.

Paintings by Husain, Souza, Raza and Ram Kumar lead the Modern art section. Contemporary art includes works by Dhananjay Singh, Bose Krishnamachari, Anish Kapoor, T V Santhosh, Baiju Parthan and other leading artists.

The auction that begins 9 am IST on July 27 on saffronart.Com is preceded by viewings in Mumbai.
