NDMC seeks grant of Rs 50K per ha for farmers for ruined crops

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has sought from Prime Minister Narendra Modi a grant of Rs 50,000 per hectare for farmers of Delhi, as a compensation for damage suffered by rabi crops by continuous rains.

NDMC Standing Committee Chairman Mohan Bhardwaj said farmers of north India have incurred heavy losses in March when rabi crops have been damaged due to continuous rains and snow in the hilly areas.

The decision to seek grant from the prime minister was taken during a resolution passed recently at the meeting of the standing committee of the NDMC, an NDMC official said.

"We demand a grant of Rs 50,000 per hectare for the farmers of Delhi, as a compensation for damage suffered by rabi crops by continuous rains," Bhardwaj said.
 

He said "farmers of Delhi also have incurred huge losses as they grow vegetables and flowers, most of which have been damaged by the rains.
