A state Congress leader today asked for the replacing the existing model of development for Himalayan region, including Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, to stop further destruction of fragile hill ecology.
In a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary, Kuldeep Rathore has asked for the review and recast of policies for the Himalayan region.
"The fragile Himalayan hills have been dotted by mega hydro-power projects, cement plants, polluting industries and tourism projects to wrong and short-sighted polices of successive governments and the massive destruction in Uttarakhand and Himachal was fallout of such policies," he added.
