At least 21 picketers were taken into custody today for blocking National Highway 37 in Assam's Morigaon district during a 36-hour Assam bandh called by the Assam Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRSU).
Bandh supporters attempted to block NH-36 and Jagiroad-Morigaon Public Work Department Road but the police forced them to remove it and took 21 people into custody, Morigaon Superintendent of Police Ainul Haque said.
The bandh supporters also pelted stones and forced shops and business establishments down their shutters.

The bandh was called by AKRSU demanding a separate Kamtapur state.
The bandh failed to evoke any response in other parts of the state.
