The Uttar Pradesh government today said there was no loss of life due to floods in some parts of the state and all necessary steps were taken to deal with the situation.
"There has been no loss of life and all arrangements have been made with proper maintenance works in place in view of floods in some areas," Irrigation Minister Dharampal Singh told the Legislative Assembly while replying to discussion on floods in some eastern districts.
"The Adityanath government is sensitive towards the issue and coordination teams of the NDRF and district officials have been set up and 40 affected districts instructed to clarify the position there," the minister said.
Minister of state for flood control (independent charge) Swati Singh said instructions had been issued to extend relief to the effected people and check erosion caused because of floods.
Referring to various members stressing on the bad shape of bridges and embankments, she said that only three bridges in Ballia, Siddhartnagar and Gonda had been damaged and two of them have been secured, while repair work on the bridge at Gonda would be completed after rains.
Stressing that she herself undertook tours and inspections of the affected areas, she said both the government and administration were active and the government was not being run by sitting in rooms.
"We started the works in advance even before floods," she said, adding that bridges and embankments which were lying damaged since the last six months of the previous government were mended in the three months of this government.
Earlier, Leader of Opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary said floods were discussed every year but the maintenance and other works to check them were undertaken only at the last minute.
"If the flood control works are undertaken in advance, it will help check erosion and many villages will be saved," he said.
