NWI urges HP govt to protect monkeys

Nature Watch India (NWI), an NGO working for wildlife conservation, has urged the Himachal Pradesh government to take effective steps for the protection of wild animals, especially monkeys.
"Some vested interests are exaggerating the monkey menace and misleading the people by launching 'motivated propaganda' by harping on 'unauthenticated data'," Convenor of NWI, Rajeshwar Singh said in a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh.
Rajeshwar said the demands of culling the monkeys and their export or relocation put forth by some organisations was legally untenable and contravened the provisions Prevention of cruelty Animal Act.
