Obituary references in Arunachal assembly

The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly today paid homage to former Speaker Padi Yubbe and MP Chow Chandret Gohain (Namchoom) who died recently.

Leading the obituary references in the house, Speaker Wangling Lowangdong termed both the leaders as great visionaries and doyens of Arunachal politics.

Yubbe, who died on January 17 this year at B Barooah Cancer Institute in Guwahati, was a member of the first legislative assembly of the state and served as speaker and cabinet minister in various capacities.

While Gohain who died at his native village Chongham in Lohit district on February 16,he was an MP from NEFA (North East Frontier Agency).
 

"The death of both the leaders has created a vacuum in the political history of Arunachal and their death is an irreparable loss to the state," the speaker said.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki termed Yubbe as an inspiration for the people of the state and added that Gohain was instrumental in integrating NEFA with the rest of the country.

The house also observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
