Odisha government today announced its decision to disengage the private company from the construction of the flyover at Bomikhal here four days after a portion of an under-construction flyover caved in killing one labourer.

Works secretary Nalinikanta Pradhan said, "The government has decided to disengage Panda Infra Private Ltd from the construction of the flyover with immediate effect."

The government will initiate further action against the company after it receives a final report from the 8-member expert team, he added.

The police have arrested Pratap Kishore Panda, the company's owner. He was produced before a local court which sent him to the special jail here.

On May 3 night one labourer was killed and another sustained serious injures when a portion of the flyover, which has already missed its deadline by over six months, collapsed.

Replying to a question, Pradhan said that the government had allowed Panda Infra to go ahead with the flyover construction even after a portion of the flyover collapsed on September 10 last year and claimed the life of a city businessman and left 11 others injured.

"But the company did not bother to mend its ways because of which the flyover caved in again, which is an unpardonable crime, he added.

Pradhan said that construction worth Rs 4-5 crore is left for completion of the flyover at Bomikhal.

"The flyover work will be completed in two months and it will be inaugurated after being verified by a third party," he added.
