After a gap of three days, services of the heritage Nilgiris Mountain Rail (NMR) between Mettupalayam and hill resort town of Udhagamandalam (Ooty) resumed today after restoration of the track, hit by landslides.

The mini train, a star attraction among tourists, was cancelled since Sunday due to heavy landslide and boulders falling on the track in the wake of incessant rains across the hilly Nilgiris district.

The workers of engineering department of Railway Salem division along with local labourers toiled hard for the last three days to clear the debris and completed the task last night, a railway official said.

The train left Mettupalayam at 7.10 AM today on its more than four-hour long journey through the picturesque valleys and mountain.
