Pakistani authorities today busted a gang that used a female member to lure young boys through Facebook and telephone calls and then kidnapped them for a hefty ransom.

The gang, which operated in Gujranwala in the Punjab province, included a lawyer, his wife, a police official and two others, police said.

With the help of the country's premier intelligence agency, the police busted the gang by tracking their phone calls.

Khurram Shoiab, a high-ranking police official, told reporters that all the accused had been arrested. He said the kidnappers used the social networking website Facebook as a tool to lure boys and later kidnapped them.

"A sum of Rs 1.7 million ransom money has been recovered from the accused," he said.

Khurram said the woman used to lure boys had a Facebook account which was used to coax them.

The woman used to then make a phone call to boys who were called to an unknown location where they were kidnapped.

The woman claimed that she had only made one phone call and was unaware of the events that occurred later.
