The Press Council of India (PCI) today called upon editors, working journalists and media organisations to observe 'International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists' on November 2 in a befitting and appropriate way.

In a statement, the PCI said the United Nations has designated November 2 as International Day for commemorating the memory of journalists who lost their lives all over the world in service of the freedom of expression and the right of the people to know, the most important ingredients of democracy.

The PCI at its meeting on July 9, 2015 had adopted a resolution to observe the Day in the country, it said.

It added that the PCI had requested news rooms and news bureaus in the media organisations all over the country to observe two minutes silence to commemorate the memory of journalists who lost their lives in line of their duty.
