Pharma co-executive held for illegal manufacture of artificial

An executive director of a pharmaceutical firm was arrested by the Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence (DGCEI) in connection with the alleged "clandestine manufacture and clearance" of artificial sweeteners by his company.

DGCEI, Hyderabad Zonal Unit, registered a case against M/s Qualicare Pharmaceuticals Ltd, located in IDA Bolaram of Medak district of Telangana for clandestine manufacture and clearance of artificial sweeteners of 'Equal' and 'Canderal' brand involving central excise duty to the tune of Rs 1.15 crore, DGCEI's Deputy Director Amaresh Kumar said in a release today.

The executive director, V Anand Kumar, was apprehended by DGCEI officers yesterday and was produced before court of special judge for Economic Offences here today which sent him to 14-day judicial custody, the release added.
