Police inspector shot dead in UP

A police official was killed and a youth was injured after unidentified assailants opened fire on them here, police said today.

Inspector In-charge of City Kotwali Police Station, Anil Kumar (55) was putting up at a hotel here. He came out on the street last night, along with a youth, when three motorcycle- borne assailants shot at them, police said.

They were rushed to a hospital where doctors declared Kumar dead, they said.

A case has been registered and further investigations are on, they added.
