A high-ranking police official was killed while another policeman got injured today after a roadside bomb exploded in Egypt's restive North Sinai.
The bomb exploded in Al-Arish city of North Sinai when the police vehicle passed by it, killing a police officer and injuring other, according to a statement by the Minister of Interior.
The North Sinai region has seen many militant attacks since January 2011 revolution that toppled long-time dictator and ex-president Hosni Mubarak.

The attacks targeting police and military increased after the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
Over 500 security personnel have been reported killed since then.
The military has launched security campaigns in the area, arrested suspects and demolished houses that belonged to terrorists, including those facilitating tunnels leading to the Gaza Strip.
