Prasada threatens agitation over lack of relief to farmers

Alleging gross neglect by the Centre and Uttar Pradesh government of the farmers affected by rain and hailstorm here, Congress leader Jitin Prasada today threatened to launch an agitation if they were not provided adequate compensation.
The former union minister said that while a compensation of Rs 55 crore was demanded for Lakhimpur Kheri, which is the largest district in the state, it has received only Rs 2 crore.
"Even Shahjahanpur district had been given Rs 22 crore as compensation to farmers but Lakhimpur Kheri has received just Rs 2 crore," he said.

He threatened to launch a massive agitation soon if Kheri farmers were not provided adequate compensation.
Prasada expressed his concern over the compensation distribution work after taking feedback from party workers in a meeting here. He discussed the relief distribution work with chief development officer (CDO) and the additional district magistrate here.
He also voiced "grave" concern over the wheat procurement programme, alleging that it was very slow.
