The police imposed prohibitory orders in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh following protest by BJP in which vehicles and shops were allegedly damaged by the protesters.

The BJP activists, led by BJP MLA Hukum Singh, yesterday held protest demanding arrest of gang-rape accused, who allegedly abducted and raped a 21-year-old girl on Sunday.

Senior police official said following yesterday's protest, prohibitory orders had been promulgated in the entire district under section 144 of the CrPC prohibiting gather of five or more persons.

The orders were enforced yesterday evening, police said.

Additional police force has been deployed and security has been beefed up in Shamli town, they said.

Meanwhile, the gang rape victim was produced in court here, where she recorded her statement last evening, they said.
