Suburban services on Central Railway (CR) were disrupted between Ambivali and Titwala stations in neighbouring Thane district for over an hour today due to a protest, an official said.

The protesters stopped the rail services to oppose demolition of their illegal slums built near the racks, said the Railways official.

The protesters came down on the tracks between Ambivali and Titwala and blocked the movement of trains from 3.15 pm to to 4.30 pm.

They were later dispersed by the RPF, GRP and local police personnel, who were called to the spot by authorities to clear the tracks.

"This agitation was in protest against the razing of unauthorised hutments by the Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation and in no way concerned the Railways," said a senior official from Public Relations Department of CR.

Due to the stir, 14 suburban services were cancelled, he said.

Last week, agitators had disrupted suburban train services on CR to protest the anti-encroachment drive carried out jointly by the Railways and civic authorities.
