A railway official was today assaulted and later shot at allegedly by two miscreants after the former refused to unbar the level crossing at Patti Bejawn here, police said.
The motorcycle-borne assailants forced the railway gateman, Phoolchand Gautam, to open the Patti Bejawn crossing gate which had been closed for a train to pass at its scheduled time, circle officer Ayodhya Prasan Singh said.
After the gateman resisted and refused, the accused severely beat him up and opened fire from a countrymade weapon, they said.
Gautam suffered injuries and was admitted to a district hospital, Singh said, adding a case has been lodged and hunt is on to nab the culprits.
