In an endeavour to make the state tobacco-free, Rajasthan government is contemplating a 'dry day' for smokers and tobacco users every month.

"The state government wants to take steps to demoralise the use of tobacco and for this, we plan a 'dry day' for tobacco users for one day every month, like some other states," NRHM Additional Director Niraj K Pawan told a two-day workshop on National Tobacco Control Programme.

The sale of tobacco will be prohibited on this 'dry day' in state, he said.

He said that as many as 1.3 lakh camps will be organised in government and private schools and colleges across the state to make the students aware about the ill effects of consumption of tobacco.

District-level committees have already been constituted under respective district Collectors to look after the execution of camps and campaign, Pawan said.

Officers from various states participated in the workshop which began yesterday.
