Local villagers, led by a few NGOs opposed to the proposed nuclear power plant at Mithi Virdi in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat, would be holding a rally on September 23 to protest central government's reported move to dilute the Nuclear Liability Act.

"Bhavnagar Zilla Gram Bachao Samiti, Gujarat Anu-urja Mukti Andolan and Paryavaran Suraksha Samiti are shocked at media reports that indicate Government of India's reported move to further dilute the Nuclear Liability Act to seal the nuclear deal with the US government," Ragar Rabari, an activist, said in a release here.

"To register our strong protest, affected people of Mithi Virdi, Jaspara, Mandva, Khadarpar and other 50 villages have organised a massive rally on coming Monday from Mithi Virdi to Bhavnagar (40 km) and scheduled a meeting at Bhavnagar to register their protest," he added.

"Dilution of the Nuclear Liability Act is being touted as a "gift" to the US government and international nuclear corporations. We strongly condemn this brazen contempt for an adopted Act by Parliament of India," he said.
