Uttar Pradesh government today issued recovery certificates worth over Rs 1,448 crore against 13 defaulter sugar mills to press for payment of cane dues to farmers in the state.
"Recovery certificates (RCs) of Rs 1,44,852.62 lakh have been issued against 13 private mills on directives of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav," an official release said here.
After issuing the certificates, the state government will take necessary steps to press for payment of cane dues to farmers, it said.

"Till now 31 separate FIRs have been lodged against sugar mill owners and officials for non-payment of cane dues. The police will do necessary action after probing these FIRs," it said, adding that, the CM was serious in ensuring payment to cane farmers.
Payment of cane dues to farmers is among one of the priorities of the state government, it said.
