RMP leader did not accept offer of police protection: Chandy

Rejecting the allegation by BJP leader O Rajagopal that though Chandy and Union Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran knew about the threat to Chandrasekharan, police protection was denied to him, Chandy told reporters that "police had offered protection. But, Chandrasekharan had declined to accept police protection'.

He said the probe into the murder of Chandrasekharan was moving in the right direction and some CPI-M activists have been arrested.

"There is no need for any anxiety regarding the probe into the murder. It has been moving in the right direction," he said, adding that law will take its own course.

 

Earlier, RMP leader N Venu had a meeting with Chandy wherein he had expressed concern over CPI(M) holding protest marches to the police stations in Kannur district, alleging "harassment" of party workers as part of the probe.

Chandy said, "the government will not succumb to threats".

Criticising CPI(M) State Committee Member M V Jayarajan, for his recent remark at a rally asking the party cadre to store "chilli water" to use it against police coming for probe, Chandy said "Jayarajan's speech resembles like that of Maoists and Naxalites. It does not befit the leader of a political party."
