Six persons detained under Goondas Act

Six persons, arrested on charges of raping a 28-year-old woman, were today detained under the Goondas Act, police said.

Police said the six had allegedly abducted the woman of Aalapuram village, 48 km from here, while she was returning home on December 16, raped her and fled.

Police said S Prabu, M Sampathkumar, M Prabu, R Abimannan of Aalapuram and V Ramesh and M Sivakumar of Jammanahalli were arrested under IPC section 376 (punishment for rape), remanded in judicial custody for 15 days and lodged in the Salem Central jail.

Based on Dharmapuri SP Asra Garg's recommendations, the Collector K Vivekanandan today ordered their detetion under Goondas Act, sources added.
