Thanking the electorate for supporting the BJP which improved its tally from eight to twelve, Dhumal recalled that in 1997 the BJP won only two seats in the Municipal Corporation (MC) but formed the government in the state in 1998.
Similarly, in the May 2007 SMC polls, the BJP had won eight seats against fifteen won by the Congress but swept the assembly polls in December 1997.
"The fact is that the people have rejected 26 years of Congress rule in the MC and Congress or anyone else has nothing to rejoice", he added.
Dhumal said that the BJP government would extend full cooperation to the Corporation for its development as Shimla was the capital of Himachal Pradesh and its pristine glory needed to be restored besides improving civic amenities.
During last four years, the BJP government had given liberal financial assistance to the Corporation for its development.
The CPI (M) described the spectacular achievement of the party to the work done by the party during the past five years and said that it vociferously raised all the issues of public interest while the main opposition party failed to do so.
