Special yoga demo by over 3500 students on International yoga day

Special yoga demonstration by around 3,500 school students and programmes by the departments of Tourism and Indian system of Medicine and Homeopathy are part of a series of programmes drawn up by the government to mark International Yoga day on June 21.

Besides these programmes, others include presentation of special lectures on yoga and its relevance, Welfare and Tourism Minister P Rajavelu told reporters here.


He said the practice of yoga would bring peace of mind, reduce stress, improve health and bring people together.

Chief Minister N Rangasamy would set in motion the celebrations, he said.

The idea of celebrating International Yoga day was formally proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his maiden address at the 69th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations on September 27 last year.
