Buoyed by rising demand from alloy-makers in domestic spot markets, nickel futures traded 0.26 per cent higher at Rs 693.40 per kg as speculators widened their positions.

Besides, covering-up of short positions in view of monthly expiry too supported the upside, brokers said.

In restricted movements, nickel for delivery in December moved up by Rs 1.80, or 0.26 per cent, to Rs 693.40 per kg, in a business turnover of 445 lots at the Multi Commodity Exchange.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in January 2017 traded higher by Rs 1.70, or 0.25 per cent, to Rs 687.40 per kg in 568 lots.
