States may set up police stations to deal with power theft as this is provided in the Electricity Act 2003, Parliament was informed today.
"States may establish Police Station to deal with cases of electricity theft," Power Minister Piyush Goyal said in a written reply to Lok Sabha yesterday.
According to Section 151A of the Electricity Act, 2003, for the purpose of investigation of an offence punishable under the Act, Police officer shall have all the powers as provided in Chapter XII of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973, the minister informed the House.

Goyal also said that the Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses of State Power Distribution Utilities includes the losses due to illegal connections and other cases of power theft.
He was replying to a question whether the government proposes to set up specialised anti-power theft police stations as established by Punjab.
