Army, which aids civil authorities in flood relief operations, today conducted a mock drill in Yamuna river near Mahadeo ghat here before the monsoon sets in over the region.
A practice drill-cum-demonstration was organised to depict flood relief operations on the banks of the river by flood relief task force of Strike 1 corps of the Army.
"Besides being ever prepared for military operations, the Strike 1 corps also reaches out to the common man and civil administration for aid," Lt Gen Shokin Chauhan, General Officer Commanding, Strike 1 said after the drill.
As monsoon season is approaching the region, directions were given to all flood relief columns to remain in high state of readiness, he said.
A number of task force and columns have been earmarked by the corps for flood relief duties in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab, Chouhan said.
