Strike hits banking transactions in AP

Banking activities in Andhra Pradesh remained crippled today following the day-long strike called by United Forum of Bank Unions to press for wage revision and other demands.

UFBU is an umbrella organisation of nine bank employees and officers unions. The wage revision of bank employees was due from November 2012.

According to BS Rambabu, Joint Secretary, AIBEA as many as 90,000 officers and employees of various banks across the state participated in the strike.

"Cash transactions and clearing operations all over Andhra Pradesh came to standstill with most of the employees participating in the strike," Rambabu told PTI.

He said centralised demonstrations were held at all district headquarters and in front of regional and head offices in the state capital.
 

T Ravindranath, General Secretary, All India Andhra Bank Award Employees' Union said around 20,000 officers and employees working in 2,000 branches of Andhra Bank across the country participated in the strike.

Ravindranath said all transactions were affected due to the strike and large demonstrations were held in front of Andhra Bank headquarters here.
