A record Rs 5.80 crore of property tax was collected in the village Panchayats in Telangana today as the Centre enabled citizens to pay their utility bills to government agencies with the demonetised currency notes.
While Rs 64.50 crore of property tax has been collected this financial year so far, the collection was Rs 5.80 crore today alone, a government release said.
The record collection became possible with the state government giving wide publicity to the decision to let citizens pay bills with demonetised currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 values, it added.
