Thousands pay tribute to Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia

Thousands of people here today paid rich tributes to Sikh warrior Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia on his 300th birth anniversary.

A large number of residents thronged the gurdwara here to attend the 'kirtan darbar' organised to commemorate the 300th birth anniversary of the city's founder.

The scion of erstwhile royal families of Kapurthala, Tikka Raja Shatrujit Singh, great grand son of Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia; of BharatpurRaja Anup Singh and Rani Surinder Kaur, Kanwar Uday Singhof Jubbal and Kanwar Rani Vibhuti Singh Jubbal, Kanwar Divraj Singh, and many guests of erstwhile royal families from other states specially came to Kapurthala to pay tributes to Jassa Singh Ahluwalia.

 

On the occasion, Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia Memorial Trust honoured more than 40 prominent persons, including Padma Shri Vijay Kumar Chopra and Tikka Raja Shatrujit Singh, Deputy Commissioner Mohd. Tayyab, SGPC members Gurpreet Kaur and Kiranjot Kaur, Former Finance Minister Upindeerjit Kaur and former hockey player Jugraj Singh.

Nawab Jassa Singh was born in May 1718 at village Ahlu, now in Lahore in Pakistan.
