Four members of a family, including two children, today drowned in the Bhavani river, near Mettupalayam, about 40 km from here, police said.
Five members of the family hailing from Mettupalayam were taking bath by the riverside at Saramanna when they were caught in a flash flood in the river. Hearing their cries,some villagers, police and fire force personnel tried to rescue them but in vain.
After a while, the head of the family, a 58-year-old-man managed to come ashore but his 43-year-old wife, 28-year-old daughter, three-year-old grand-daughter and two-year-old grandson drowned.
Search is on for the boy's body, while others have been retrieved, they said.
