Two Indians in medal rounds of world youth boxing

Reigning champion Nitu (48kg) and Asian bronze-medallist Bhavesh Kattimani (52kg) advanced to the semifinals, assuring India of at least two medals in the world youth boxing championships here today.

Bhavesh notched up a close 3-2 win over Badr Berhili of Morocco, while Nitu dominated her bout with such ferocity that the referee awarded it to her in the first round itself against Germany's Maxi Klotzer.

Earlier, two other Indian women boxers advanced to the quarterfinals with comprehensive wins here.

Sakshi (57kg) and Jony (60kg) entered the last-eight stage after fetching unanimous victories.

Sakshi defeated Hungary's Viktoria Matesz, while Jony got the the better of New Zealand's Pelea Fruean.

 

However, Lalita went out of the tournament after being out-punched by Germany's

Alina Popp.

There was disappointment in the men's draw as well with S Barun Singh losing to Thailand's Thitisan Panmod.
