An undertrial prisoner at the Palamau Central Jail died in the Medininagar Sadar Hospital today in the wee hours, police sources said.

Rambrat Ram, a para-teacher and acting-Headmaster of the Balhui Middle School, was behind the bars for last six months for cases alleging his involvement in misappropriation of funds meant for school building's construction, they said.

It was learnt that Ram was not keeping well for the past several days and was rushed to the Sadar Hospital late last night after his health conditions deteriorated, sources said, adding, that he breathed his last in the wee hours.

Ram's son Parveen Ravi, meanwhile, alleged that the family members have been repeatedly requesting the jail authorities to shift him to the hospital for last one week, which, however, went unheard.

Palamau DC Kripanand Jha has initiated a probe into Ram's death as per Sub-divisional Magistrate S K Verma's order.
