Undertrial review committee inspects Central Jail

An undertrial review committee visited Central Jail here and reviewed records pertaining to lodgement of undertrial prisoners besides inspecting the premises including the barracks and kitchen block.

The committee, headed by Principal District and Sessions judge, visited the jail yesterday to review the cases of undertrial prisoners falling under section 436A of CrPC (an undertrial should be released on personal bond without bail), an official spokesman said here.

Accompanied by District Legal Services Authority (Additional Special Mobile Magistrate Traffic Srinagar), District Magistrate Srinagar and Senior Superintendent of Police Headquarters Srinagar, the Principal District and Sessions judge reviewed records pertaining to lodgment of undertrial prisoners as on February 26, the spokesman said.
 

He said on the spot observations made by the Committee were recorded for recommendations.

"Besides some of the initiatives pertaining to enhancement of hygienic conditions inside the jail were also discussed and it was recommended that departments concerned will be approached to provide the same for rectification at the earliest," the spokesman said.

The committee also inspected the premises of the Central Jail including prisoners' barracks, hospital block and kitchen block to take stock of facilities being provided to the jail inmates, he added.
