The Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta today demanded that Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung should call an emergency Cabinet meeting to end the friction between the Delhi government and its senior officers who are allegedly being harassed.
Gupta, in a statement, alleged that Delhi government led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is "deliberately trying to violate and disregard" the Constitutional provisions.
Alleging that the Chief Minister considers himself to be "omnipotent", the BJP leader claimed Kejriwal wanted to work on his own terms, even if it meant degrading the principles of Indian democracy.
"The Delhi government is deliberately trying to violate and disregard the Constitutional provisions, even when the Supreme Court, Delhi High Court, Lieutenant Governor and the Central government has issued a notification clearly demarcating the jurisdiction of the Delhi LG and the Delhi government," he said.
He also alleged that "few days back, AAP government had insisted that the officials of the Delhi Law Department complete all the formalities pertaining to hike in circle rates without the nod of LG and make a recommendation directly to the Delhi government".
Thereafter, Law Minister Kapil Mishra summoned officials of the Law Department and "warned them that if, in future, they disregard the orders of the government or talk of sending the file to the LG's office, they will face the same fate as that of the Assistant Legal Advisor (who was allegedly ordered to surrender the post)" he alleged.
Gupta claimed that Mishra's comment caused resentment among the department officials who have decided to go by the legal framework in conduct of their duty and Principal Secretary (Law) has sent the file relating to the circle rates to the Chief Secretary.
He added that the situation of the Revenue Department's officials is similar.
