Woman arrested for smuggling gold worth Rs 30 lakh at airport

A woman has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold bars valuing about Rs 30 lakh at international airport here.

The passenger was intercepted by customs officials after her arrival here from Bangkok yesterday.

"On detailed examination of her baggage and personal search, five packets containing eight cut pieces of gold, weighing 1.2 kg valued at Rs 30.31 lakh were recovered," a press release issued today by the customs said.

The passenger was arrested and the gold seized, it said.
