Woman elopement case: Police gives clean chit to accused

The police have given clean chit to the youth and his brother who were accused of abducting a woman of another community in Kandhla town of Shamli district.

Police yesterday filed its report under section 169 of the CrPC, clearing the name of the accused brothers in the case of abduction, Circle Officer N P Singh said.

Earlier, the woman in her statement, recorded under section 164 of the CrPC, informed a court that she was 24-year-old and had eloped of her own will with the youth.

Tension had prevailed in the town over the issue of the elopement of the woman on November 29.
 

Police had traced the woman in Delhi along with her lover on December 25. The youth was later arrested and the girl sent for medical examination.

The issue also saw the arrest of two persons, including the head of an ashram, for allegedly making objectionable remarks against the community during a Mahapanchayat meeting.
