A woman has been critically injured in an acid attack at Matia Gate Colony under Govind Nagar police station here, police said today.

The incident occurred last evening when the accused, Sadab, had gone to Matiya Darwaja where he had a chance encounter with Shakir, a resident of the area, they added.

A heated altercation ensued between Sadab and Shakir, who were involved in a feud over a property, police said, adding that the two reached Shakir's house where Sadab poured acid on his sister-in-law and fled from the spot.

"A case has been registered against Sadab, a resident of Machali Mandi under Kotwali police station for pouring acid on the 'bhabhi' (sister-in-law) of Shakir, a resident of Matiya Darwaja under Govind Nagar police station. A hunt for the accused is on," DSP Jagdish Singh said.

The woman has been hospitalised, he added.
