Woman sets ablaze stepdaughter

incident, a woman allegedly set ablaze her 15-year-old stepdaughter at a village in Odisha's Ganjam district, police said today.

The accused, identified as Runu Jena, a mother of two children, was arrested for allegedly committing the crime at Ambapua village in Kabisurya Nagar area, the police said.

The girl Janaki, a student of 10th Class, was first admitted to a health centre at Kabisurya Nagar with severe burn after the incident on Friday and then shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here, where she died, he said.

The woman was allegedly torturing Janaki in the absence of her father Nandush, who was working in Chennai, police said quoting villagers who informed them about the incident and took the girl to hospital.
