Youth drowns in Beas river

A 21-year-old youth was feared drowned after he was trying to swim across the Beas river in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district today, police said.

According to eyewitnesses, Rajbir -- a resident of Lambagaon village in Jaisinghpur -- was trying to cross the Beas, but when he reached midway, he apparently lost control due to the fast flow of water, they said.

A search operation is underway but his body could not be recovered yet, they added.
