11.98% Gilt Dealt For Rs 40 Crore

The wholesale debt market (WDM) segment of the NSE yesterday continued with its last week's somnolance and the total volume touched Rs 167.75 crore.
The largest volume was contributed by one deal in the 11.98 per cent 2004 worth Rs 40 crore giving a weighted yield of 12.06 per cent. Another deal in the upper end was a Rs 2-crore deal in the 12.22 per cent 2008 with a weighted yield of 12.26 per cent.

The lack of interest in the market was reflected in the low volumes at the short end of the market with only Rs 31 crore dealt for papers with maturities within 2000. The 11.40 per cent 2000 government loan was traded for Rs 5 crore at seven paise discount, giving a yield of 11.44 per cent. The 11.64 per cent 2000 was traded for Rs 10 crore with a yield of 11.41 per cent.
Trading in zero coupons was subdued with only Rs 10 crore coming from zero per cent 1999 at a 10.40 per cent yield.
There were some deals in the treasury bills. The 14-day bill maturing October 31 was traded for Rs 23 crore at 8.80 per cent discount and the 91-day bill maturing on January 16 was traded for Rs 13 crore at 10.08 per cent discount. There was also a 12-day repo deal in the 12.50 per cent 2004 for Rs 20 crore at 9 per cent.
The commercial paper of Reliance maturing on December 23,1998 was traded for Rs 10 crore at a weighted yield of 10.83 per cent.
The debenture section was also subdued with a total volume of Rs 29.42 crore. Of this Rs 25.71 crore came from zero coupon 2001 bond of Reliance Petro giving a 18.19 per cent yield.
