Four leading Chinese companies _ Kelon, Midea, TCL and Jinling _ yesterday signed agreements with Indian companies to manufacture consumer durables in areas like digital video discs, telephone equipment, washing machines and refrigerators.

The Indian companies that are signing the agreements are the Baron group, Konka India and Air Vision. The Baron group has firmed a tie-up with TCL.

Revealing this at a meet organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) with the Chinese delegation here yesterday, Lu Ruihua, Governor of Guangdong, said: "With this increased business activity between the two countries, the two-way trade and investment can reach a newer height."

The 38-member high-level business-cum-official delegation will call on Union minister of commerce Murasoli Maran tomorrow.

The six-day visit of the Chinese delegation to India is a follow-up on the visit of the Indian delegation, led by Maran, to China in February and Maran's visit to the Chinese economic zones earlier this year. The objective is to exchange views and to explore common areas of interest to deepen bilateral economic cooperation.
