Boc India Arm To Unveil Anaesthesia Gadget

BSCAL

This is in line with the company's plan to invest Rs 1,000 crore in the country over the next three-four years. The machine has been developed with advanced safety measures to ensure that the life-saving gases do not mix with poisonous ones, said E J W Shackleton, chief executive of Ohmeda. The company will initially be importing the machines but later hopes to set up a manufacturing unit in the country, Shackleton said.

Ohmeda will be looking at key market areas in Southeast Asia and China for marketing the machine, where BOC has been trying to build up a strong market for its products.

The company, which reported a profit decline by 9 per cent for the year ended March 1996, has been trying to find a market for its products outside the US where the demand for anaesthetic machines has gone down significantly. Recently, it entered into a pact with Hewlett Packard for a range of medical electronic products among co-operation in other healthcare businesses.
