Broadcasting Bill Stalled By Political Indifference

One of the main casualties of this indifference has been the Doordarshan-Measat direct-to-home (DTH) television project, which has been put on the backburner till a comprehensive media policy is evolved. The issue has not been discussed even once in the committee of secretaries, inspite of being referred to it.

Senior ministry officials say that since the DD-Measat DTH venture involves equity participation by Malaysia-based MBNS, it has to conform with the broadcasting bill. Information and broadcasting minister CM Ibrahim has promised to introduce the bill during the winter session of Parliament.
