Call For Plan To Acheive Revenue Target

The revenue department needs to formalise an action plan which would help them achieve the revenue targets besides delineate clear cut administrative measures. The action plan should encourage voluntary compliance by the assessees and the tax administration should be transparent.

This was stated by KMR Janardhanan, minister of state for finance, during the valedictory function of the All India Conference of Chief Commissioners of Customs and Central Excise on Thursday.

He said that greater attention should be given to improve the image of the Central Board of Excise and Customs by making it miore accessible, responsive and transparent in dealings.

 

He also stressed the need for a concerted action in the department to reduce litigation and make the Kar Vivad Samadhan Scheme a sucess besides earning substantial revenue to the government.

The minister pointed out that the role of the revenue department has undergone sea change and new challenges have cropped up before the department which now has to mobilise revenuse and also combat smuggling and other economic offences.

He expressed concern that at the end of the first four months of this financial year there has been a revenue deficit. He exhorted the officials to chalk out an action plan to help achieve the revenue targets besides being readily accessible to the public.

He also asked the officers to quickly redress the difficulties faced by the tax payers.
